Wow, I can't believe I went and forgot that!

[Suuuup Luceti. Red's showing up over the journal and laughing, thinking something is pretty amusing. What, you ask?]

Well uh... Has anyone managed to forget it was their birthday, before? I was just kinda sitting here, and then Pika and them decided to bring me some gifts! I thought it was pretty weird, but it turns out it's 'cause it's my birthday. Pretty nice of 'em, huh?

[He just laughs a little more. Oh that's kinda funny. Way to go, Red. Everyone remembers their birthday. They get presents and stuff... !]

I guess I'm not paying much attention to the calendar here or something, huh? I should probably keep more track of that.

I know I haven't forgotten a birthday...but my father made a point to celebrate it every year when it came up.

[And as a result, she always made a point to extend a small gesture to the Shinsengumi when their birthdays came up...when she found out what they were, anyway.]

But some people seem to want to keep them a secret. Though I can't imagine why.

[She brightly smiles.] Anyway, happy birthday! Do you do anything special, where you come from?

Really? I'm sure that's helpful, at least! You'd never forget, at that rate.

I dunno, I never really thought of it as a big deal! I don't see the harm in letting someone else know. [But that's just you, Red.]

Thanks! Well uh, not really! Mom'll give me presents and stuff, and some of my friends, but that's about it!

That sounds like the usual order of things! As for keeping it a secret...I'm not really sure. I always liked having an opportunity to celebrate--whatever the reason was! Maybe they think living another year isn't celebration worthy..?

[Especially in a time of war...maybe they feared they'd jinx it somehow?]

I guess so! I mean, if it's what they wanna do, I guess it's their choice!

It just seems so sad...shouldn't people want to celebrate, whatever the reason? It's a nice break from the usual routine!

I guess so! But I mean, I know I don't really wanna celebrate! It's just kinda another day for me.

Do you not like celebrations, then? Even just setting a little time aside to do something you enjoy--there's nothing wrong with that, is there?

I do! I just... I dunno. Doesn't really seem all that exciting to me, I guess!

What sorts of things do you find exciting, then? [Celebrations were certainly a better option than battles and fighting, when you consider the alternative.]

Battling! I mean, festivals and stuff are exciting, just not my birthday.

'Battling'? [Chizuru seems a little surprised. He looked rather young--] So are you a warrior, then?

Yeah! Kinda, I guess. I don't fight personally, I just battle with my pokemon.
